Henry C. (Canaday) Jones, 94, life long resident of Mayfield, Kentucky, passed away peacefully at his home on January 17, 2021 at 11:28 a.m. with his youngest daughter and live in caregiver since 2012 at his bedside. He was born on December 18, 1926. He is survived by his three daughters; Betsy Jones of the family home, Anne J. (Rodney) Bailey of Florida and Catherine C. Jones. He is also survived by his beloved “4 legged brown eyed girl”, Sugar who had been his constant & faithful companion since 2013. Also surviving are two grandsons, five great grandchildren, three nephews and two nieces; David (Eileen) Hartwell of North Carolina, John (Janet) Hartwell of Connecticut, Griffith Jones of Florida, Sarah Evelyn Jones of Georgia and Julie Jones Deuschle of Florida.
Mr.Jones was the 3rd generation owner of Mayfield Planing Mill until 1976, which was one of the oldest established businesses in Mayfield having been formed in 1885 by Henry’s Maternal grandfather, Henry Clay (H.C.) Canaday & brother Ben Canaday. Mr. Jones was a 1945 graduate of Mayfield High School. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a B-29 mechanic. After discharge from the service, he attended the University of Kentucky where he was a member of Phil Delta Theta Fraternity. He then attended Denver University, Denver, Colorado, where he met his wife Eddye. Henry was a former president of the Kiwanis club in Mayfield. He was also a former founding member of St Martin’s in the Field Episcopal church where he served on many committees.
Henry was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 55 years, Edna K. “Eddye” Jones, his birth mother Vivian Canaday Jones, his father Tudor G. Jones, Sr., his stepmother Madeline Murphey Jones and his three siblings Barbara Jones Hartwell, Juliette Jones and Tudor G. Jones, Jr.
A private graveside service will be held at Maplewood cemetery under the direction of Byrn Funeral Home in Mayfield, KY. There will be no visitation.
