Four Marshall County cross country runners earn Area 1 team honors

Four Marshall County cross country team members were selected to the KYTCCA Area 1 Team. Junior Cade Flatt and sophomore Ethan McCarty were named to the Area 1 First Team. Senior Audra Fite and seventh grader Eden Sandlin made the Area 1 Second Team.

A few highlights from their fall season:

Flatt set a state record in the 2500m (7:41.61) at Trigg County on Sept. 12 and McCarty set the second fastest time (7:49.93) in the state – both hold the record for their grade level. Flatt took first and McCarty second at Calloway County on Sept. 19 and in the Class 3A Regional meet Oct. 31, Flatt finished fourth and McCarty 10th. Both had great results at the KHSAA State Cross Country meet –  Flatt breaking the top 30 with a 29th place finish and 15 seconds back, McCarty placed 41st.

Fite led the Lady Marshals this year with top finishes – taking fourth at both Trigg County on Sept. 12 and Calloway County on Sept. 19, finished in the top 10 in ninth at the Marshall County Invitational and 14th in the Class 3A Regional meet on Oct. 31 at Muhlenberg County, qualifying for the state meet.

Sandlin took second at the Marshall County Invitational in the girl’s middle school division and won the middle school 3000m race at Graves County Oct.17. She had the second best finish for the varsity girl’s team with a 16th place finish in the Class 3A Regional meet on Oct. 31.
