DRAFFENVILLE – Marshall County football held their second scrimmage game Thursday at home against Union County, their first scrimmage was at Fort Campbell on August 14th. Head Coach Evan Merrick felt that overall the scrimmage gave them some needed growth as a team and put the team in position for their first game against Mayfield next week in the season opener.

“We feel like the scrimmage against Union County provided us some valuable experience before the start of the season”, Merrick said. “Any time you’re in a scrimmage setting you want to see how your kids will respond to certain situations and you want to prepare them mentally for game situations.  Union County provided us a good look in the scrimmage because they are a hard-nosed scrappy team.”

“As a staff we were able to get a lot of the answers we were looking for going into next weeks game with Mayfield.  Our running game and defensive front should be strong points for us this season.  I thought Dalton Nelson carried the ball well in both scrimmages and up front on the defensive side we did a decent job controlling the line of scrimmage. We sat our starting QB Skyler Smith who was nursing a sprained wrist from last week at Ft. Campbell which allowed backup Grant Johnson to take some important reps with the offense.”

Kick-off next Friday against Mayfield is 7:00 pm.
