
WHITE SULPHER SPRINGS, West Virginia – Patrick Newcomb teed off at 1:40 EST today on hole #10 along with playing partners Steven Alker of New Zealand and Benjamin Alvarado from Chile.
Newcomb parred his first hole of The Greenbrier Classic PGA Tour event, followed by his only double bogey of the round on #11. He then put together five straight pars before a birdie on the par 3 18th put him back at even par.
He went on to par the next six holes, but faltered a little on the last two of three holes with two double bogeys and a par to finish with a two over 72, tied for 133rd. Newcomb’s driving accuracy was 42.86% and he hit 10 of 18 greens in regulation.
Scott Langley leads after the first round with eight under par.
Newcomb will tee off on Friday at 8:40 EST on hole #1, needing to make a move up the scoreboard to make the cut for the weekend.
UPDATE: Newcomb finished Friday’s round 10 over (72-78) for the tournament and will miss the cut.
