Marshall County’s two regular season wins, 14-4 and 15-0, over Calloway County were not previews of Tuesday’s game with the Lady Marshals holding a 2-1 lead through five innings before a two-run bottom of the sixth gave them a 4-1 win for the district title.
Opening with a first inning 1-0 lead that came on a run scored by Presley Jezik on a wild pitch, the Lady Marshals followed it with six straight retired batters by pitcher Gabbi Lovett. Gracey Murt scored the Lady Marshals second run in the bottom of the third inning on a Calloway County error for a 2-0 lead before the top of the fourth when the Lady Lakers got on the board on a two-out RBI single by Izzy Housden.
Two runs in the bottom of the sixth for the Lady Marshals scored on a sacrifice by Jezik and Mckenzie Elkins scored from third on a pop up by Cayson Conner. Lovett got the win in four innings on the mound, striking out five, allowing three hits and one run. Caitlyn Powers took the loss, allowing six hits with one earned run.
