Rev. Marvin W. Jones

On Tuesday, February 26, 2019, Rev. Marvin W. Jones, loving husband and father, at the age of 98, entered his heavenly home.

On January 14, 1945, he married Aliceteen Franklin in Tatumsville, KY. They raised three children, Phyllis, Beverly and Alan.

He attended Lambeth College, Murray State Teacher’s College, Bethel College and Bethel Theological Seminary where obtained his Bachelor of Theology degree. He was ordained as a Methodist minister in 1957. He pastored many churches in West TN and North IN for over 46 years and even after retirement in 1984 for another 6 years. In
1992, he was named Pastor Emeritus at Benton first UMC in Benton, KY.

Marvin’s passion was preaching the Good News of Jesus Christ and ministering to the flock. This led to participation in mission trips with the most memorable occurring in 1963 when he went to Costa Rica for a month. He often told his stories of that trip to anyone who expressed interest.

Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, WTM & Bessie Jones as well as his brother, Paul.

He is survived by his loving wife of 74 years, Alice, his three children, Phyllis, Beverly, and Alan, 7 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.

Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 5, 2019 at Benton First United Methodist Church, 845 US 641 Spur, Benton, KY 42025, Rev. Dr. Ben Boone and Rev. Dr. David Russell officiating.

Interment will follow in the Benton Cemetery, Benton, KY.

Visitation will be held between the hours of 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. on Monday, March 4, 2019 at Collier Funeral Home, 211 West 5th Street, Benton, KY 42025.
