Lady Marshals improve to 5-0, wins over McCracken and Ballard

Marshall County’s Layne Pea, guarded by McCracken County’s Calli Carver, led the Lady Marshals with 20 points in their 78-34 win Friday.

Back to back wins Friday and Saturday over McCracken County and Ballard Memorial improve the Lady Marshals record to 5-0, their best start since the 2015-2016 season. In their last two wins, the Lady Marshals out-scored their opponents 149-51, defeating McCracken County 78-34 and Ballard Memorial 71-17.

Friday at McCracken County, the Lady Mustangs got on the board first with a basket by junior Tay Scott, tied by Cayson Conner and from there it was all Marshall County. They lead 32-9 at the end of the first quarter behind 10 points a piece from Halle Langhi and Lorin Powell.

McCracken County’s highest points total came in the second half, out-scoring Marshall County by two points. Presley Jezik led in scoring in the quarter with four free throws to finish the first half on a 41-20 lead.

The Lady Marshals out-scored the Lady Mustangs 24-9 in the third quarter, led by Layne Pea with 10 points and six from Langhi to take a 65-29 lead. Pea opened the fourth quarter with two straight 3-pointers for a total of four in the game, on her way to lead all scorers with 20 points in the Lady Marshals 78-34 win.

Pea led with 13 points in the Lady Marshals 71-17 win over Ballard Memorial on Saturday, Whitnee Miller had 12 and Conner 11. The Lady Marshals will play their first district game Tuesday at home against the 4-0 Murray Lady Tigers, tip-off at 7:30.
