Law Enforcement Insider: Holiday Drive

By Brandi Greenfield

We want to thank everyone who came by, chatted with us, donated and gave kind words during the first half of this year’s Holiday Drive with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office.  Just as a quick update, we are well on our way to beating the previous years’ numbers! Over $700 was raised for Marcella’s Kitchen, and nearly 1,500 food items have already been collected.  I don’t yet have a count on the toy collection for The Moses Basket, but I know there will be a lot of happy kids this Christmas!

There will be a second half to the drive in December.  This will have multiple dates for in-person collections, and the option to continue giving at the Sheriff’s Office. I’ve been told it feels weird/intimidating/scary for some people to walk up to a police car, open the door and leave food inside- but, really- it’s ok.  Some people have also asked why that particular car has a metal bar around it.  That is the “pit car.” It’s a training vehicle for the units. The car itself has lots of great stories, no doubt, but it is currently there to accept your donations.  You may also drop off non-perishable food items and toys (no cash, please) to Jo Jo’s Café, Little General at the “Y” in Benton and Farm Bureau of Marshall County. Any other businesses willing to be a drop off point, please contact Deputy Greenfield.

For those who have asked, incoming-Sheriff McGuire has given his full support to continuing the drive in the coming years. With business interest and familiarity of the project, we can only expect it to continue to grow. If you have any questions about the drive, please feel free to call the Sheriff’s Office and leave a message for Deputy Greenfield.
