Traffic stop leads to drug arrest of Benton man

On Tuesday, August 7, 2018, at approximately 12:40AM, deputies conducted a traffic stop on a 2000 Lincoln Towncar on John Puryear Drive for traffic violations.

When deputies approached the vehicle, they observed the passenger, Gary D. Kelley, 40, of Benton, KY, trying to discard drug paraphernalia inside a drink he was holding. In addition, deputies observed Kelley trying to discreetly shove something between the seats. During a search of the vehicle, deputies located suspected methamphetamine in between the seats, where Kelley had been sitting.

Kelley was placed under arrest and transported to the McCracken County Regional Jail, where he was lodged. The operator of the vehicle, Terry W. Babb, 30, of Paducah, KY was issued a citation for Failure to or Improper Signal and Failure to Produce Insurance Card. Babb was released.
