Lady Marshals sweep Slugfest games, improve to 12-2

The Lady Marshals finished out their Slugfest with a perfect 4-0 record with three wins on Saturday – 3-2 over Goreville, 15-1 over Union County and 12-1 over Paducah Tilghman.

In their first game on Saturday against Goreville, the Lady Marshals were down 2-0 after the first inning but evened the score in the third inning on a Layne Pea single and Gracey Murt single. They scored the go-ahead run in the sixth inning on a wild pitch.

The win went to Gabbi Lovett in two and a third innings, allowing three hits and no runs. Kemp pitched the first four and two-thirds innings, allowing seven hits and two runs.

Game two against Union County, the Lady Marshals won 15-1 in five innings on 17 hits. Three players had three RBI’s in the win – McKenzie Elkins, Addie Young and Savannah Hairgrove. Shelby Wadkins got the win in four innings on the mound, allowing five hits and one run.

Union County scored the first run before the Lady Marshals rattled off 15 straight runs through the first four innings. Scoring came on a Young 2-run double, error, 2-run single by McKenzie Elkins, solo home run by Young, Piercefield single, sacrifice by Elkins, double by Layne Pea, 3-run triple by Hairgrove, run scored on passed ball, Charley Pursley bunt and single by Murt.

In their final game of the Slugfest, the Lady Marshals defeated Paducah Tilghman 12-1 in six innings on 16 hits. Tilghman took an early 1-0 lead on a Bailey Clark single before the Lady Marshals took the lead in the bottom of the second inning with two outs scoring on wild pitch, single by Zoie Swoope and bunt by Pursley.

They went up 6-1 in the bottom of the fourth on a single by Elkins, single by Pursley and sacrifice by Pea. Two more runs were scored in the fifth on a Conner single and error and the final three of the game in the sixth on a single by Young and 2-run double by Piercefield.

Wadkins pitched all six innings to pick up the win, allowed five hits, one run and struck out two. Leading hitters for the Lady Marshals were Murt 2 for 4 with a double and triple, Hadie Butler had a double and three RBI’s and Pursley with two singles and two RBI’s.

Monday’s scheduled away game at McCracken County has been rescheduled for Thursday.
