Friday, March 30 Fats in the Fire* 11am-1pm “Good homemade lard is one of the choicest fats a housewife can use.” Our stove is hot cooking down small pieces of hog fat; filling the kitchen with the smell of bacon. Soon sweet crunchy cracklins will float to the top and the liquid fat will be poured off to cool in the lard stand. Do I smell fresh cracklin’ cornbread in the oven? Land Between the Lakes Calendar Saturday, March 31 Lye + Lard + H2O = Soap* 1am-3pm Rub a dub dub, 3 men in a tub, how did they get clean? In the mid 1800s families would have been using lye soap to do their cleaning. See the transformation with your own eyes as simple ingredients are stirred together to form this all-purpose cleaner. Sunday, April 1 Which Came First the Chicken or the Egg 11am-1pm Let’s visit with the Dominique chickens to see if they can answer this age-old question.
