Marshals complete district sweep of Murray in Tuesday’s win

The Marshals followed up their overtime loss on Friday to Graves County with good wins over Russellville Saturday and Murray Tuesday. They overcame a 12 point deficit against Russellville to win 58-56 behind a break out scoring performance by Tyler Stokes with 22 points, his highest point total since returning to the team in early January.

They completed their district sweep over Murray Tuesday in a 48-30 win. The Marshals led 12-4 at the end of the first quarter that began on two 3-pointers to open the game by Skyler Smith and Stokes before Tommy Waldrop put the Tigers on the board with two free throws. Tyler Powell, Aaron Reed and Stokes added the final six point of the quarter for the Marshals.

Their lead stretched out to 27-11 at halftime, led by Stokes with six and Reed with four, while holding the Tigers to seven points in the second quarter.

Austin Riley opened the second half with a 3-pointer as the Tiger defense stepped up in the second half to make scoring a little more difficult for the Marshals. RaVichael Strickland who led Murray with 12 points, scored five of them in the third quarter to cut the Marshals led to 13 before Powell finished with two free throws for a 15 point lead.

The Marshals out-scored Murray 15-10 in the fourth quarter, led by Reed with four points, a basket each from Powell, Stokes, Smith and Tyler Belcher and one point from Flatt. They improve to 13-9 and play another district game at Calloway County (10-14) Friday.
