Calvert woman, passenger injured in two-car crash

Two people were injured Wednesday afternoon after police say a driver crossed into the path of an oncoming vehicle.

According to the McCracken County Sheriff’s Department, deputies responded about 1:55 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 20 to the intersection of Kentucky Dam Road and Calvert Drive to a two-car crash with injuries.

Deputies say Eric Matheny, 36, of Sturgis, was driving west on Kentucky Dam Road in a Silver 2000 GMC Yukon when he collided with a Gold 2000 Saturn passenger car driving north on Calvert Drive as the driver attempted to cross Kentucky Dam Road.

The driver of the Saturn, Era Lynn, 69, of Calvert City, and her passenger, Julia Marshall, 81, of Paducah, were trapped in the vehicle and had to be freed. Both suffered incapacitating injuries and were taken to Baptist Health ER via Mercy Regional Ambulance. Matheny was not injured in the crash.

Response efforts and cleanup restricted traffic to one lane in the westbound lanes of Kentucky Dam Road for about an hour, according to MCSD. Reidland Farley Fire Department and Mercy Regional assisted on scene.

Lynn was cited for no operator’s license.
