Darnall announces candidacy for county attorney

Jason Darnall, assistant county attorney in Marshall County, announced on Monday his intent to run for the county attorney’s seat in 2018.

Darnall, who will run on the Independent ticket, has served as assistant county attorney since 2004. He is a 1995 graduate of Marshall County High School, a 1999 graduate of the University of Kentucky and 2003 graduate of the Salmon P. Chase College of Law. He began his career in law as a staff attorney at the Kentucky Court of Appeals, and has, in addition to his work as assistant county attorney, been in private practice since 2004. He is a partner at Blankenship, Edwards & Darnall in Benton.

Darnall is a board member of the Kentucky CLE Commission, a member of the Bar of the Supreme Court of the United States, treasurer of the Marshall County Bar Association, trustee and treasurer of the Marshall County Law Library, member of the board of directors for the Marshall County Athletics Association, as well as a Paul Harris Fellow and counsel for the Marshall County Health Department and the Calloway County Health Department. Darnall is the city attorney for Hardin and co-counsel for the Marshall County Fiscal Court.

“After 13-plus years of serving as Assistant County Attorney where I have handled every issue and matter that this job entails, I know this is the job for me,” Darnall said in a letter of intent to seek election. “The job allows me on a daily basis to protect kids, protect our community and protect some individuals from their own selves. I am good at being firm when necessary to protect our community and at offering mercy when I believe it will better steer someone’s life in a more positive direction. Additionally, I know the law; thus when it doesn’t offer a clear solution to some of the problems that stream through our office on a daily basis, I am practiced at working to find a creative way to resolve the issue.”

Seated County Attorney Jeff Edwards is not seeking re-election.

Darnall is the son of Carl Wayne and Janet Darnall; he and his wife Jenny live near Benton.
