County library system to host fall break, October programs

The Marshall County Public Library branches are hosting a number of programs during fall break in which students and families may participate.

The library will kick off the week with its retro game night from 5:30-7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 9. A Nintendo, Super Nintendo and Atari will all be on hand, as well as many popular games from gaming’s initial golden age. The program is open to gamers of all ages.

Programs will continue at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Calvert City branch, with a zombie party during story hour. The library will host a petting zoo at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Benton branch during Mother Goose Story Hour.

The Hardin branch of the library will host a fall festival from 1-2 p.m. Thursday in Hardin. The week’s events will conclude with a “Friday the 13th Freaky Frights movie marathon” from 10 a.m. To 4 p.m. Friday at the Benton Branch. Movies are family friendly and will include Frankenweenie, Coraline, ParaNorman and 9.

Beyond fall break, the library system is hosting other events leading up to Halloween, as well. All three branches of the library will hold pumpkin painting events on Oct. 21. Benton and Hardin will host painting sessions from 10 a.m. To 3 p.m., while Calvert City will host its session from 1-4 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. The library will provide art supplies, however participants should bring their own pumpkins.

Beginning at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday Oct. 25, students can celebrate Halloween a little early. The Benton branch will offer its Trick or Read after-school program. Participants may put on their costumes and come to the Benton library for games, crafts, prizes and candy.
