The Lady Marshals golf team will make their eighth consecutive trip to the state tournament after winning the 1st Region title Tuesday at Miller Memorial Golf Course in Murray. They took the title by eight strokes over Murray with both teams advancing to the state tournament, Murray’s first since 2005.
Marshall County’s team score of 316 was their second best this season, followed by Murray with 324, McCracken County 328 and Graves County 330.
Marshall County’s Hallie Riley earned the 1st Region individual title with a 2-over 73 winning by one stroke over Graves County’s Nicole Taylor. Riley holed her birdie putt on the final hole for the win and said rolling the putt in on 18 was the toughest shot she had in the round.
“It was a downhill putt…very hard…the greens played very fast today and I am very grateful I made the birdie”, Riley said. “It was the biggest putt of my life.”
Coach Stephanie Fisk said she doesn’t keep up with scores during the tournament but knew it would be a close match.
“I didn’t know until the very end what it was going to be but it’s very exciting, they’ve worked extremely hard this year”, Coach Fisk said. “We’ve had a tough schedule, but they wanted it and they showed up today.”

Final scores for the Lady Marshals: Riley 73, Megan Hertter 79, Savannah Howell 81, Kennadi Spraggs 83 and Kenley Luksic 95. Spraggs, the only senior on the squad, played her best career round on Tuesday.
