Semi driver allegedly leaves scene of accident, deputies investigate

Marshall County Sheriff’s report, Sept. 25, 2017:

Deputy Dennis Lewis at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 22, investigated an injury crash on I-24. According to his report, a vehicle driven by Samantha J. Allen of Edwardsville, Kan., was traveling east on I-24 at the Purchase Parkway overpass. A second vehicle, a semi truck driven by an unknown driver to it merged onto I-24 from the ramp. The semi failed to yield right of way and Allen struck the semi in the left rear. Allen’s vehicle struck the bridge wall and overturned. Allen was transported by Marshall County EMS to Marshall County Hospital. The driver of the semi left the scene.

Other citations for the week include:

Capt. Brett Edwards on Sept. 21 investigated a theft on Hawkeye Road. According to the report, Carl Park of Benton reported the theft of copper tubing from an air conditioner at rental property owned by the complainant. The case remains under investigation.

Deputy Josh Anderson at 11:42 p.m. Sept. 22, was dispatched to Lakeview Church Road in reference to a disturbance. As a result of the investigation, Keitha L. Barney, 33, of Calvert City was arrested and charged with assault fourth degree. She was lodged in the Marshall County Detention Center.

Deputy Chris Greenfield on Sept. 23 received information that someone was driving on a suspended operators license. Greenfield conducted a traffic stop of the vehicle on Briensburg Road and charged the driver, Derek Baier, 26, of Benton, with the following: Driving on DUI suspended license second offense; failure to produce insurance card; no registration receipt; failure to wear seatbelt; Greenfield was assisted by Deputy Luke Rudd. Baier was lodged in the Marshall County Detention Center.

Deputy Chris Greenfield was dispatched at 7:55 p.m. Sept. 23, to the area of US 68 and Barge Island Road in reference to a possibly intoxicated driver. Greenfield located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. As a result of his investigation a 17-year-old juvenile was taken into custody and charged with DUI. Greenfield was assisted by Deputies Luke Rudd and Deputy Josh Anderson.

Deputy Cory Curtner at 2:24 p.m. Sept. 24, served a Marshall County Warrant for contempt of court. Austin Gipson, 20, of Benton was arrested on the warrant.

Deputy William Strader at 3:08 p.m. Sept. 24, served a McCracken County Bench warrant. Strader arrested Meghan R. Belcher, 23, of Gilbertsville on the warrant.

Deputy Josh Anderson at 10 p.m. Sept. 24 served an Indictment warrant charging Kevin J. Morris, 27, of Calvert City with flagrant non-support.
