The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet plans to activate a new traffic signal at the Purchase Parkway/US 62/KY 1523 intersection in Calvert City on Monday, Sept. 25, 2017.

The new traffic signal at the Purchase Parkway/US 62/KY 1523 intersection in Calvert City is expected to go into service sometime after 10 a.m. on Monday. This new signal at Purchase Parkway milepoint 52.333 and US 62 milepoint 7.618 in Calvert City will replace an existing out-dated signal and controller.

This is along a section of US 62 and the Purchase Parkway being used as a detour for the closed westbound entry ramp from US 62 to I-24 at Calvert City Exit 27. Traffic making a left turn from US 62 westbound to he Purchase Parkway southbound to access I-24 westbound has been backing up from time to time, particularly during peak travel periods. The outdated existing signal did not have the capability to provide a protected left turn arrow for eastbound US 62 traffic heading south on the parkway.

Among other things, the new signal will provide a protected left turn arrow for this movement. It will include other features that will be important to traffic flow at this intersection in the future as work to upgrade the I-24/Purchase Parkway Exit 25 Interchange for future Interstate 69 traffic continues.

The new traffic signal is expected to go into service sometime between about 10 a.m. and about 2 p.m. on Monday.

Motorists should use appropriate caution and be alert for changes in traffic flow the new signal may create at this busy intersection.

Motorists should use appropriate caution where equipment, flaggers and maintenance personnel are along the roadway in close proximity to traffic flow during the transition to the new signal on Monday.

About 14,400 vehicles travel through this intersection at Calvert City in an average day.
