Four residents, three of them children, were injured yesterday afternoon in a crash on the bypass just outside of Benton.
According to Benton Police Department, officers were dispatched about 3:30 p.m. Wednesday to the U.S. Highway 641 and Mayfield Highway intersection in reference to an injury accident. Police say Sean Penn was preparing to make a left turn onto Mayfield Hwy. heading east when he turned into the path of a white full-size pickup driven by John Hartig, who was driving north on Hwy. 641. Police say Penn did not see the approaching vehicle.
Penn and three children in his vehicle were taken to Marshall County Hospital for treatment of non life-threatening injuries. Hartig and his passenger were unharmed in the collision.
Investigation determined that Penn was not under the influence at the time of the crash, however he was cited to court on suspicion of operating on a revoked Missouri license, failing to use a child booster seat, possession of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia.
Benton Fire Department, Marshall County EMS and Marshall County Sheriff’s Department assisted on scene.
