The 2017 KHSAA State Track and Field Championships held at the University of Kentucky Outdoor Track Facility was held yesterday as Class 3A took to the track at 3:30 after the Class 1A meet concluded. Cameron Thurman recorded the best finish for the Marshall County team with a fourth place in the shot, following that the team had two ninth place finishes, three 10th, one 11th, two 14th, one 18th and four 19th place finishes.
• Cameron Thurman recorded a distance of 49-00.75 in his fourth place shot put finish.
• Kirsten Walker placed ninth in the girl’s shot put event with a throw of 33-11.50.
• Audrey Grizzard placed ninth in the pole vault clearing 9-00.
• The boy’s 4 x 800 relay team placed 10th in 8:18.63 with Garrett Fulgham, Jackson Reed, Joseph Reed and Cade Flatt.
• Tori McCracken finished 10th in the high jump with 5-00.
• Bryce Ladd placed 10th in the pole vault with a new PR height of 12-00.00.
• Jackson Brown finished 11th in the 110 meter high hurdles with a time of 15.88.
• Abigail Oakley placed 14th in the discus with a throw of 95-07.
• Sydney Temple took 14th in the pole vault with 9-00.
• Jackson Brown placed 18th in the 300 meter high hurdles with a time of 42.84.
• The boy’s 4 x 200 relay team of Jackson Brown, Will McGee, Daniel Lepore and Tanner Clough finished 19th with a season best time of 1:34.02.
• The boy’s 4 x 100 relay team placed 19th in 45.01 with Jacob Miller, Will McGee, Wade Derington and Tanner Clough.
• Aaron Reed placed 19th in the triple jump in 40-07.00.
• Caleb Pahl placed 19th in the pole vault with 10-00.00.
The girl’s 4 x 400 relay team ran their best time of the season by seven seconds with 4:16 in their heat but following that, the meet went into a delay due to hazardous weather and ultimately ruled over with scores recorded as final without the 4 x 400 event.
Other notable results from the state meet came in the girl’s pole vault where Henderson County’s Jaci Bickett set a new state record of 13-03.00, breaking her own state record set last year of 12-06.00. Bryan Station’s Isaiah McCall set a new state record in the 110 meter high hurdles in 13.76, breaking a record that has stood for 42 years.
Male won both the girl’s and boy’s state team titles. Dupont Manual girl’s were second and North Hardin third. Trinity (Louisville) boy’s took second and Bryan Station third.
