A Paducah teenager has been charged with murder, after an alleged DUI crash killed a passenger in her car.

According to Marshall County Sheriff’s Department reports, deputies responded just after midnight Saturday, May 20 to the intersection of Griggstown and Salyer Creek roads in reference to a single-car crash. Police say Kori E. Lane, 18, of Paducah was speeding and driving recklessly when the crash took place. Further investigation revealed Lane had allegedly been drinking.

A passenger in the car, 16-year-old Sierra Jones, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Marshall County Coroner’s Office.

Sheriff Kevin Byars said speed played a considerable role in the incident. Byars said the car dropped off on the shoulder of the road and eventually struck a tree.

“From what they described to me, it looked like she ran off the road and tried to recover, got to bouncing and then when it hit Salyer Creek Road it just kind of launched it from that point,” Byars said.

The investigation remains ongoing.

Benton Police Department, Marshall County Coroner’s Office, Marshall County EMS and Palma-Briensburg Fire Department assisted on scene.

Lane was arrested and charged with DUI, first offense and murder as a result of the incident. She was lodged in the Marshall County Detention Center on a $500,000 bond. Lane was scheduled to appear at 9 a.m. Monday, May 22 in Marshall County District Court in Benton.

Services for Jones were scheduled to be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, May 25 at Collier Funeral Home in Benton. Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, May 24 at the funeral home.
