The Marshall County Arts Commission, in conjunction with the Badgett Playhouse, are looking for residents to help solve a grizzly murder.

Well, maybe not a real murder, but participants can get the effect of a live action “Clue” game, just the same. MCAC and Badgett will host the “Who shot Terry Mike Jeffrey?” murder-mystery dinner fundraiser, beginning at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 8 at the Children’s Art Center in Benton. MCAC administrative assistant Suzann Cass said the Badgett Playhouse Dinner Theater crew had been hosting murder-mystery events for some time, and the idea was actually theirs.

“Terry Mike, he’s done a fundraiser for us every July probably for the last 12 or 15 years,” Cass said. “He’s a big proponent for the Children’s Art Center, and since he does this – and other shows – at the Badgett Playhouse, we just decided … we were going to do that instead of our Derby Dinner … and then they decided to do both this year.”

Tickets are $35 apiece and are available both at the Children’s Art Center or at Badgett Playhouse on J.H. O’Bryan Avenue in Grand Rivers. Tickets may also be purchased online at badgettplayhouse.com. Tickets are limited to 150 participants. Proceeds will go to benefit the Children’s Art Center.

That fundraising is critical to MCAC programs and art center operations, Cass said.

“We are a nonprofit,” Cass said. “So everything we get for operating expenses, our scholarship fund, our art supplies, you know, any of our expenses comes from either annual memberships from the community, donations from the community or we do get a small grant from the Kentucky Arts Council. Hopefully we’ll get bigger ones in the future, but we’ve only gotten small ones so far. … Fundraising is how we operate.”

Doors will open at 6:30 p.m., dress for the affair is casual. Ticket price includes meal, dessert, drink and game.
