Lady Marshals advance to Region 1 Tournament semi-finals

Tera Colson was fouled on her way to the basket by Carlisle County’s Mollie Henderson.

MURRAY – Lady Marshals Head Coach Joseph Simmons said in post-game comments, “the name of the game is survive and advance” which is exactly what the Lady Marshals did in their opening night 59-28 Region 1 Tournament quarter-final win over Carlisle County.

Paige Henson shoots around Carlisle County’s Mollie Henderson in the Lady Marshals 59-28 win.

Led in scoring by Miyah Davis who settled into her 3-point shot nicely with the Lady Marshals second basket of the game on her way to 17 points, 15 coming from behind the arc. Carlisle County’s Taylor Carrico scored the Lady Comets first two baskets of the game, both from 3-point range as well to keep them close in the Lady Marshals 7-6 lead. Carrico went on to score eight of Carlisle’s 10 first quarter points, equaling eight points by Langhi in the Lady Marshals 17-10 lead.

Back to back three’s from Davis and Chloe Kerrick put the Lady Marshals up 25-13 in the second quarter, holding Carlisle to five points to lead at halftime 33-15.

Davis opened the second half with her third 3-pointer, leading the Lady Marshals in the third quarter with eight of their 12 points, the rest coming from Tera Colson and free throws from Langhi to stretch their lead out to 45-20.

Paige Henson hit two free throws to start the fourth quarter on her way to eight points in the game, followed by a final three by Davis for a 50-22 lead and the final six points of the game came off the bench from Jessica Hicks, Whitnee Miller and Carmen Gunn to finish out the win.

Simmons was happy to see the scoring spread around, and credited his players with their unselfish play in their 14 assists, six coming from Lexee Miller, and thought the win was a total team effort.

They will meet McCracken County, a 48-41 winner over Ballard Memorial, in Friday’s 6:00 semi-final game. The other semi final game will be determined between the winners of Tuesday’s Murray/Paducah Tilghman and Graves County/Fulton County games.
