PADUCAH – The KHSAA Region One Driving and Swimming Championships were held last Saturday at the Paducah Athletic Club. Marshall County finished fifth in combined scoring among nine teams competing with the top spot going to Madisonville-North Hopkins.
Marshall County had five top five finishes in the meet and two fourth place finishes individually by Isaac Bayer in the 100 yard freestyle and Jackson Brown in the 100 yard backstroke. Brown set a new school record in the event with a time of 1:00.66, breaking his old record of 1:00.73 set earlier this season.
Tilghman’s brother-sister team of Caleb Fell and Tyler Fell swept the 200 yard freestyle races while the sprints went to Murray’s Neely Gibson and Will Shelton who both won the 50 yard freestyle. Tilghman placed sixth in the meet and Murray third behind Hopkinsville in second.
The top two finishers in each event automatically qualified for the KHSAA State Swimming and Diving Championships at the University of Louisville February 23-25.
