Nature Station’s First Annual Hummingbird Photo Contest Winners Announced

LAND BETWEEN THE LAKES, KY/TN – October 13, 2016Woodlands Nature Station, at Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area, would like to congratulate the winners of its First Annual Hummingbird Photo Contest.

We were thrilled to receive some fantastic photos for the contest.” said Nature Station naturalist, Aviva Yasgur. “Nature photography is a challenging hobby, and capturing a good shot of a hyperactive hummingbird is one of the most challenging goals a photographer can attempt.”

Contestants submitted photos of hummingbirds taken at the Nature Station during August 2016. A panel of five judges reviewed the entries and selected winners in two categories, ‘Hummingbird(s) at a Feeder’ and ‘Hummingbird(s) Other Than at a Feeder.’ The public voted for the ‘People’s Choice’ award on the Friends of Land Between the Lakes Facebook page.

During August, ruby-throated hummingbirds flock to the Nature Station in large numbers as they pass through on their southern migration. Visitors can see as many as 200 hummingbirds in a single day during this time.

Congratulations to this year’s winners, whose photographs will be on display at the Nature Station during Hummingbird Festival 2017.
