Lady Marshals shut-out Hopkinsville, host Lady Marshal Classic Saturday

HOPKINSVILLE – At Hopkinsville on Tuesday, the Lady Marshals brought their 3-game losing steak to an end with a 4-0 win, out-shooting the Lady Tigers 37-3 in dominating fashion with 27 of those on-goal while controlling the time of possession to even their record to 4-4.

Goals came from Kayla Travis, Taylor Droke and Lindy King in the first half and Carmen Gunn in the second half on an assist from Travis. Keeper Allie Fiske recorded 2 saves in the Lady Marshals shutout.

Their three games prior to Tuesday, ended in losses beginning with a 3-1 loss on August 27th to Greenwood. Greenwood out-shot the Lady Marshals 24-12, 12-9 on goal and took 8 corner shots. Greenwood led 1-0 at halftime, scored two quick goals late in the game followed by a late-game goal by Bailey Wood, assisted by Travis to avoid the shut-out.

The Lady Marshals suffered a 4-1 district loss to Murray on August 30th. Murray had 22 shots, 15 on goal while the Lady Marshals took 10 shots in the game, 7 on goal. Fiske had 9 saves and Carlen Whirley 2. All of Murray’s goals came in the first half with the lone Lady Marshal goal coming in the second half by Travis on an assist by Camryn Crass.

Clarksville came into Colburn Stadium on September 1st and handed the Lady Marshals a 5-0 loss.

They will host the Lady Marshal Classic on Saturday with five games slated beginning at 10:00 when the Lady Marshals take on Daviess County. At noon McCracken County will play Owensboro Catholic, the Lady Marshals JV will play McCracken County’s JV at 2:00, McCracken County and Daviess County will square off at 4:00 and the final game at 6:00 will be Marshall County and Owensboro Catholic.
