BENTON – The 11th Annual Flag Day Ceremony sponsored by the Marshall County Republican Women was held Tuesday.  On June 14th, the Flag Act of 1777 resolution created an official flag for a new nation but not until 1916 did President Woodrow Wilson proclaim June 14th as a day to honor the Stars and Stripes and it became a national holiday in 1949. The current flag we fly today is the 27th version and this year marks the 100th anniversary of Woodrow Wilson’s proclamation.
