Drug Court Walk for Recovery set for Saturday, June 11 by Judge Jamie Jameson

Benton/Murray, KY (June 3rd, 2016) – Circuit Judge Jamie Jameson and the staff of the Drug Courts for Marshall and Calloway Counties have elected to renew the annual Drug Court Walk for Recovery. The public and all public officials are invited to come and support these members of our community as we celebrate their sobriety and encourage them to live a healthy lifestyle and bring awareness to the drug addiction plague in our area. This walk for recovery will have a 5k event. You do not have to run, you can walk and enjoy the scenery as well or just come and show your support for our community.

The walk for recovery helps bring awareness to the drug problem we have in our community and to remove the negative stigma that accompanies addiction because those participating in the Drug Court program will be walking and running alongside those in the community who support the participants’ path to recovery,” said Circuit Judge, Jamie Jameson. “The theme of this year’s walk is ‘No More Shackles’ because the more that our community sheds a positive light on the recovery process, then the more successful those in recovery will be,” continued Jameson.

We invite the members of the community that are interested in recovery, a problem that affects us all, to come join us this Saturday June 11 at Murray Calloway Chesnutt Street Park in Pavillions 1 & 2,” stated Jameson. “Our drug court is very proud of the individuals that have made great strides in their lives since entering Drug Court. It’s important for members of the community to show the participants that the community supports their recovery because as our participants succeed, so does our community at large.” continued Jameson.

Drug Court is a court-administered program developed by the Kentucky Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC) several years ago to address the growing drug addiction problem in Kentucky. Circuit Judge Jamie Jameson serves voluntarily as chief administrator of the Marshall & Calloway drug courts. However, the program is administrated by two separate county-specific panels consisting of representatives from law enforcement, probation & parole, the Commonwealth attorney’s office, drug court staff, and most recently, Jameson asked representatives from the Social Work program of the Ky. Dept. of Public Advocacy and the Ky. Dept. of Vocational Rehabilitation to join the team as well.

The Walk for Recovery will begin on Saturday, June 11, 2016 from 10:00a-12:00p at Murray Calloway Chestnut park under pavilions 1 & 2 at the corner of 8th and Payne streets.
