Marshall County resident donates to Murray State endowment

The Arthur J. Bauernfeind College of Business recently received a generous gift from the estate of the late Gary R. McLemore, a member of the 1983 and 1988 Murray State graduating classes.

McLemore gave instructions to his mother, Mary Ann McLemore of Calvert City,  Ky., that upon his death, $210,000 was to be given to Murray State University to establish a scholarship endowment (The Gary McLemore Business Scholarship) for Marshall County High School (Ky.) graduates pursuing a degree in any major within the Arthur J. Bauernfeind College of Business at Murray State.

McLemore passed away in November of 2015. He was a graduate of Marshall County High School and received his bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Business Administration in 1983 along with his MBA in 1988 from Murray State. Following graduation, he began a 25-year career with Wal-Mart Corporation. He managed stores in eight different states and was very well-respected within the company.

“Gary was proud to have been a graduate of Murray State University. He thought Murray State had a great business program. The business department helped him to have a very successful career and he wanted a Marshall County High School graduate to have an opportunity to attend his alma mater,” said Mary Ann.

“It was with sadness that we heard of the passing of Gary McLemore.  His wish of bestowing his estate to help future Marshall County High School students attend Murray State University and major in one of the areas of the Arthur J. Bauernfeind College of Business is truly admirable.  We will honor him, his memory and his legacy for years and years to come in being able to award scholarships to deserving students from Marshall County,” said Tim Todd, Dean of the Arthur J. Bauernfeind College of Business.
