Murray State Nursing Student Earns Kentucky’s Top Student Honor

(MURRAY, Ky.)-A Murray State University nursing student has earned one of Kentucky’s most coveted academic recognitions in healthcare education.

Saiylor Beecham, a senior Bachelor of Science in Nursing student from Paris, Tennessee, has been named the 2025 Kentucky Nurses Association Student Nurse of the Year. The award represents the highest honor bestowed upon nursing students statewide.

According to Kentucky Nurses Association CEO Delanor Manson, Beecham’s nomination highlighted her as “an excellent nursing student whose dedication, leadership and commitment to the profession stands out.” Manson praised Beecham as “an exceptional student nurse leader and role model,” noting that the nomination itself reflects “deep respect and admiration” for her contributions to nursing education in Kentucky.

The recognition positions Beecham not only for excellence upon entering the profession but also for continued leadership impact throughout her nursing career, Manson added.

Dr. Dina Byers, Dean of Murray State University’s School of Nursing and Health Professions, expressed pride in Beecham’s achievement. “This honor reflects her leadership, compassion and commitment to the nursing profession,” Byers said. “Saiylor exemplifies the values of excellence and service that define our program and the nursing profession.”

For Beecham, the award carries both personal significance and professional responsibility. She described the recognition as “not only a personal milestone but also a reflection of the incredible support, mentorship and opportunities” she has received during her nursing education.

“It inspires me to continue striving for excellence, advocating for my patients and contributing to the growth and advancement of nursing across Kentucky and beyond,” Beecham said. She emphasized her commitment to “upholding the values of the nursing profession and working toward meaningful change that will positively impact both the healthcare system and the communities we serve.”

Beecham will receive the award at the 2025 KNA Legacy and Leadership Gala, scheduled for November 13 in Louisville.
