(MAYFIELD, Ky.) — Mike Johnson, a maintenance worker at Kentucky State Police Post 1 in Mayfield, was recognized earlier this month as one of 14 civilian employees honored statewide for their contributions to public safety.
Johnson received the 2024 Post Operations Support Award during a ceremony where the Kentucky State Police celebrated civilian staff members who work behind the scenes to support law enforcement operations across the Commonwealth.
The seven-year KSP veteran was praised by leadership for consistently exceeding expectations in his role. From remodeling offices to ensuring the post remains operational during severe weather, Johnson’s work extends far beyond routine maintenance duties.
“Mr. Mike Johnson’s dedication and hard work are vital to our mission at Post 1,” said Captain David Archer, the post’s commander. “While troopers are often the face of our agency, it’s the commitment of support staff like Mr. Johnson that makes our success possible.”
Commissioner Phillip Burnett Jr., who presented the award, emphasized the critical role civilian employees play within the organization. Kentucky State Police employs approximately 800 civilian staff members in roles ranging from telecommunications and information technology to public relations and driver testing.
“Civilian personnel are vital to the success of this agency,” Burnett said. “They are the agency’s trusted partners working hand in hand with our troopers and officers, supporting everything from frontline response to long-term casework.”
The statewide recognition program included awards for Civilian of the Year, Career Achievement, Police Communications Support, and Supervisor of the Year, highlighting the diverse contributions of non-sworn personnel throughout the Kentucky State Police system.
Johnson was specifically commended for demonstrating outstanding service, dedication, professionalism, and compassion while fostering a positive work environment and leading by example.
