
(EDDYVILLE, Ky.)-The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office handled several notable incidents this week, including an extradition from Oklahoma, a crash caused by a rodent, and a theft at a popular boat ramp.
Florida Man Extradited on Warrant
Luis Baquero, 29, of Davenport, Florida, was arrested Wednesday night after being extradited from Oklahoma to face charges in Lyon County. Deputy Shannon Oliver served the arrest warrant at 11:52 p.m. for failure to appear in Lyon Circuit Court. Baquero was transported to the Crittenden County Detention Center.
Rat Causes Single-Vehicle Crash
In an unusual incident Thursday afternoon, a driver lost control of her vehicle after a rat reportedly ran up her leg while driving. Jessie Biggs, 25, of Eddyville, was traveling north on KY 818 around 1:20 p.m. when the rodent caused her to panic and crash her 2006 Saturn Vue into a mailbox. Chief Deputy Sam Adams investigated the collision, and no injuries were reported.
Two-Vehicle Collision in Eddyville
A two-car accident occurred Friday night on Hayden Drive in Eddyville around 10:51 p.m. Deputy Josh Travis determined that Jennifer Mathiew, 46, of Eddyville, driving a 2017 Nissan, collided with a parked 2009 Ford owned by John Balthus, 43, of Kuttawa. No injuries were reported in the incident.
Backpack Theft Leads to Quick Arrest
A theft at Coleman Bridge boat ramp Saturday evening resulted in a swift arrest the following day. Deputy Josh Travis responded after 8 p.m. to reports that a Princeton resident had his backpack stolen while filming a video at the boat ramp off KY 730 East.
The victim had set his backpack on the pavement while continuing to film when a dark-colored Suburban entered the parking area. A suspect exited the vehicle, stole the backpack, and fled eastbound on KY 730. The victim managed to photograph both the suspect and the vehicle during the incident.
Sheriff Brent White identified the suspect Sunday morning around 9 a.m. George W. Grove, 57, of Eddyville, was charged with theft in connection with the incident, and the stolen property was recovered.
