(CALVERT CITY, Ky.) —Two instructors from North Marshall Middle School recently completed a professional development opportunity that will bring enhanced science education resources to their classrooms this fall.
Amanda Wiseman and Miriam Gibson took part in a three-day educational workshop hosted by Arkema at the company’s Calvert City facility from June 24-26. The program focused on strengthening teachers’ abilities to deliver engaging Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) content to middle school students.
During the intensive training, Arkema’s technical staff guided educators through interactive learning experiences featuring specialized classroom kits. These materials covered key scientific concepts including energy transformations, Earth and space science, and biological structures in plants and animals. The curriculum materials align with national science education standards and provide enough content for two months of classroom instruction.
Beyond the training materials, participating educators received funding to purchase additional laboratory supplies for their schools, plus continued support from Arkema’s scientific team throughout the academic year.
According to Carl Stewart, who manages the Calvert City facility, this marks the 24th consecutive year the company has offered this professional development program for area teachers. Stewart emphasized that the initiative serves multiple purposes: strengthening community connections, exposing students to potential careers in science and manufacturing, and providing valuable educational resources to local schools.
The program represents Arkema’s commitment to promoting STEM education and manufacturing career pathways among students in the region.
