Warrant Serves and Court-Related Arrests

Lyon County Sheriff’s deputies have been busy executing multiple warrants over the past two weeks, with several individuals facing charges ranging from failure to appear in court to more serious felony violations.

On July 15, deputies served a Whitley County bench warrant on Justin G. Jaynes, 33, of Williamsburg, for non-payment of fines and court costs related to a criminal mischief case. The same day, Sheriff Brent White served a Lyon District Court bench warrant on Aiden J. B. Whiteman, 23, of Hickory, who had failed to appear for a DUI-related case.

A busy two-day period on July 17-18 saw deputies execute warrants on five individuals:

  • Bradley Tanner, 45, of Calhoun, charged with second-degree escape out of Jefferson County
  • Valerie Turner, 40, of Cave City, charged with flagrant non-support out of Hart County
  • Wendy C. Furbush, 60, of Glasgow, charged with failure to appear in a theft case
  • Jimmy L. Clark, 21, of Clay, facing four Webster County warrants for failure to appear on various charges
  • Mackenzie Redd, 34, of Kuttawa, charged with contempt of court in a traffic case (posted bond and was released)

Additional arrests included Marcko N. Palomo on July 20, who was served a Lyon Circuit Court warrant for failure to appear after being extradited from Florida on felony drug trafficking charges. On July 23, Cleo P. Lee, 31, of Ledbetter, was arrested on a failure to appear warrant for an alcohol-related case, and Cynthia D. Brown, 40, of Paintsville, was arrested July 24 on a Warren Circuit Court warrant for felony probation violation.

Property Damage and Criminal Mischief

Deputies responded to a criminal mischief complaint on July 15 from the Lyon County Judge Executive’s Office regarding damage to a county road. The investigation revealed someone had trenched across the roadway while attempting to install a water line at a nearby barn. Chief Deputy Sam Adams cited Lonnie J. McFadden, 48, of Oakland City, Indiana, for second-degree criminal mischief. The estimated damage to the roadway was approximately $900, and McFadden faces an August court date.

Major Hazmat Incident Closes Highway

A significant hazardous materials incident occurred July 21 on KY 293 at Interstate 24 when a car hauler semi experienced a fuel system rupture while exiting at Exit 45. The incident spilled over 300 gallons of diesel fuel onto the roadway and exit ramp, requiring the road to be closed until midnight for cleanup and repairs. Lyon County deputies worked alongside Eddyville and Kuttawa Fire Department personnel, with assistance from Kentucky Transportation Cabinet and Kentucky State Police.

Scam Alert: Citizen Loses Thousands to Computer Hackers

Sheriff’s officials are warning residents about computer scams after a local citizen lost thousands of dollars to fraudsters. On July 22, Chief Deputy Sam Adams investigated an incident where a resident received a fake pop-up message claiming his computer had been hacked. The scammers, operating from outside the United States, convinced the victim to send thousands of dollars in Bitcoin to resolve the non-existent problem.

Sheriff Brent White is reminding citizens that legitimate companies will never ask you to send money via gift cards, digital currency, or Bitcoin to fix computer problems. He also advises residents to change default passwords on their internet routers, as this is the most common way scammers gain access to computers.

Traffic Accidents

Deputies responded to two separate vehicle collisions on July 25. The first occurred at the intersection of US 641 and KY 1943, where Earl Williams, 64, of Eddyville, became distracted after dropping his phone and pulled his 2010 Nissan into the path of a northbound 2016 Volvo concrete truck driven by Steven Reynolds, 64, of Madisonville. No injuries were reported.

Later that day, Azamat Ravshanov, 34, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, backed his 2025 Volvo into a parked 2023 Peterbilt semi-truck and trailer at a Kuttawa business. No injuries occurred in this incident either.

Shooting Investigation Ongoing

Lyon County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a dangerous incident that occurred Saturday evening, July 26, between 8:30 and 8:50 p.m. Multiple 911 calls reported a vehicle traveling on KY 1943 with occupants firing shots from the vehicle near residential areas. While no injuries were reported, at least two separate shooting incidents occurred along the roadway.

The suspect vehicle is described as a passenger car, likely four-cylinder with a loud exhaust system. Anyone with information about these incidents is asked to contact the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office at (270) 388-2311.

The investigation into the shooting incidents remains active, and Sheriff White emphasized the serious nature of the charges that could result from firing weapons from a moving vehicle in residential areas.
