
Mrs. Mamie Elaine Smith Scarbrough, age 81, of Mayfield passed away Wednesday, June 4, 2025 at her residence following a long illness.
A faithful member of Northside Church of Christ, Elaine was active in many church activities. Elaine also loved taking care of children. She worked at Mother Goose Day Care in the infant room and Longfellow Elementary as a teacher’s aide. After retirement, she opened her own daycare, Miss Elaine’s Precious Jewels, at her home where she and her husband James cared for over sixty children. Miss Elaine and Mr. James, as her kids would call them, enjoyed exploring the garden paths in the yard and spending time on the patio swing. She was an avid gardener and spent a great deal of time perfecting her lawn and flower beds.She, along with her forever friends, would travel to different places during the summer making lasting memories and sharing good times. Elaine was happiest surrounded by her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Scarbrough is survived by her two sons, Jeff (Beth) Scarbrough of Mayfield and Scott (Chasity) Scarbrough of Columbus, Ohio; two granddaughters, Megan (Norland) Blount of Mayfield and Katie Beth Scarbrough and fiance,Colton Moon of Huntingdon,Tn.; two grandsons, Charlie Brooks Scarbrough and James David Scarbrough of Columbus, Ohio; four great grandchildren, Case Blount and Billie Ann Blount of Mayfield, Schuyler Moon and Hayes Moon of Huntington, Tn.; along with numerous brothers, sisters, nieces, and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Doyle Scarbough; parents, Brooks and Katherine Merrell Smith; one brother Robert Smith; and one infant daughter, Jennifer Lynn Scarbrough. The family would like to thank the dedicated staff of Mercy Health Compassus and loving caregivers who provided Elaine and our family with excellent attention and care during this long illness.
Memorial visitation for Mrs. Mamie Elaine Smith Scarbrough will be held at Northside Church of Christ on Saturday, June 7 from 2:00 p.m. until the memorial service at 4:00p.m. Minister Chris Kemp will officiate the service. A private family burial will be held at a later date.
