Marshall County and Murray met in the 4th District championship game for the first time in nine years, and just like in their 2016 victory, the Marshals came out on top—this time in a commanding 9-0 shutout over the Tigers.
The Marshals racked up 12 hits on the night, led by Matthew Henderson’s 3-for-5 performance that included two RBIs. Hudson Doughty went 2-for-3 with a solo home run, while Ayden Clevidence added two hits in four trips to the plate.
Kaden Merrick earned the win, striking out five while giving up six hits over six innings on the mound.
Doughty’s leadoff home run in the first inning gave the Marshals an early lead. They added three more runs in the third, highlighted by an RBI single from Cash Chiles that scored Doughty, who had reached on a walk and Clayton Wyatt followed it up with a two-run single to make it 4-0.
Marshall County extended the lead to 8-0 in the fourth after back-to-back singles by Hayden Gray and Doughty set the offense up. Kannon Dunn and Henderson each delivered RBI singles, and Wyatt drove in another with a groundout. Henderson capped off the scoring with an RBI in the fifth, sealing the 9-0 win and the district crown.
The Marshals overall record improves to 21-8 heading into next week’s Region 1 Tournament.
