Lady Marshals advance to 4th District Championship

Marshall County’s Skylar Waller, chased down by Christian Fellowship’s Bekah Wright, in Monday’s 4th District Tournament semi-final. Waller hit seven 3-pointers in the game on her way to lead the Lady Marshals with 23 in the 78-16 win.

Marshall County and Christian Fellowship met in the first of two 4th District Tournament semi-final games on Monday at Calloway County High School. The Lady Marshals beat the Lady Eagles 78-16 and will advance to play Calloway County in Wednesday’s title game.

Calloway County defeated Murray 71-29 to advance to the championship game, both teams meeting in the title game for the fifth time over the last six years.

Skylar Waller led the Lady Marshals in scoring with 23 points and made seven 3-pointers. The first nine points of the game came from beyond the arc, Waller hitting two on either side of one by Kenzlee Terry.

The Lady Marshals opened the game on an 11-0 run before the Lady Eagles got on the board on a 3-pointer from Meleah Grigg. Waller hit two more threes in the quarter to push the lead out to 19-3. CFS finished out the quarter outscoring the Lady Marshals by one to trail 26-11.

Along with Grigg’s three, Kylee Hines scored three first quarter points for the Lady Eagles which proved to be their most productive quarter of the night.

Over the course of the second quarter, CFS was held to just one point on a free throw by Rylee Hudson. Waller added two more threes in the quarter, Terry had five points and Wall added four to build the halftime lead to 41-12.

The Lady Marshals shut out the Lady Eagles in the third quarter while scoring 19 points to extend the lead to 60-12.

Senior J.C. Wells provided the highlight reel of the fourth quarter for Marshall County, sinking four 3-pointers and finishing the game with a career high 14 points. All four of the Lady Eagles fourth quarter points came from Hudson.

Christian Fellowship finishes the season with a record of 7-22.
