Lady Marshals improve to 6-0 with win over Murray

Eden Sandlin was one of three players in double figures with 11 points in the Lady Marshals 55-15 district win over Murray.

Marshall County played Murray High at Reed Conder Gymnasium on Tuesday in the first Fourth District game of the season for both teams. The Lady Marshals picked up the win 55-15 and extended their current win-streak over the Lady Tigers to 14 games and remain undefeated at 6-0.

Three players in double figures led the Lady Marshals scoring starting with Kenzlee Terry with 13 points, Addi Wall had 12 and Eden Sandlin finished with 11.

The Lady Marshals full court pressure rattled the Lady Tigers and they held them scoreless throughout the first quarter to take an 11-0 lead.

Murray’s Mayla Smith hit a three-pointer followed up by a basket from Leilani Brown to open the second quarter and end the Lady Tigers scoring drought. A basket by Wall and steal and lay in by Terry pushed the Lady Marshals lead back out to 10 points at 15-5.

Kenzlee Terry led the Lady Marshals with 13 points including three 3-pointers in Tuesday’s win over Murray.

Sandlin scored on an assist from Skylar Waller and she followed it up with a steal and basket that wrapped up the half for the Lady Marshals on a 14-2 run and 25-7 lead.

The smothering defense of the Lady Marshals didn’t let up in the third quarter, holding Murray to just three points, all from the free throw line. The first half run extended to 29-2 before Murray scored on a free throw by Josie Haynes. Six different players contributed to the Lady Marshals 19-point effort that led to a 44-10 lead to end the quarter.

Sandlin took control of the fourth quarter, scoring the first seven points. Lauren Noles and Rylan Darnall capped off the 11-point effort in the 55-15 win.

On Saturday in the McCracken County Holiday Hoopla Classic, the Lady Marshals defeated Livingston Central 63-30. Wall led the scoring with 21 points to earn MVP honors, Terry had 13 points and Teague had 10.

They will head to the Show-Me State for three games in Kansas City. Play begins on Thursday against North Kansas City at 6:15, Friday they meet Blue Valley Northwest at 5:15 and play Alma at 12:45 on Saturday.
