
Claude Thomas “Tom” Cannon, passed away peacefully at Ray & Kay Eckstein Hospice Center on May 25, 2024, at the age of 82. He was born on January 29, 1942, in Paducah to Claud and Conlie Bell Cannon.
Tom’s educational journey was a testament to his intelligence and dedication. He graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree from Mississippi State University and went on to earn a Master’s Degree from Murray State University. His academic achievements laid the groundwork for a successful career as an engineer, where he dedicated many years of service before retiring from the United States Enrichment Corporation (USEC).
Tom’s commitment to his country was evident through his service in the Army National Guard, where he exemplified the values of duty and honor. His leadership skills shone brightly as he served as Past Master of the Plain City Lodge #449, and his community spirit was recognized with the esteemed title of Kentucky Colonel. Further extending his service, Tom took on the role of Past-President of the Baptist Health Volunteer Auxiliary, where he made significant contributions through his time and talents.
A man of faith, Tom was a devoted member of Broadway United Methodist Church. His spiritual life was a cornerstone that guided him in all his endeavors and provided comfort and strength throughout his life. Tom’s interests were as varied as they were heartfelt. He found joy in the simple pleasures of life, such as spending quality time with his beloved children, Greg and Sara. They fondly reminisced about the years he spent driving them to and from their many activities, cherishing every moment spent in their company.
Tom is survived by his two children, Gregory Thomas Cannon of Paducah and Sara Jane (Christopher) Brown of Paducah.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 47 years, Bonnie Rae Cannon and a sister, Beverly Jean Cannon.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM Friday, May 31, 2024 at Milner & Orr Funeral Home in Paducah with Rev. Justin Ramer officiating. Burial will follow at Maplelawn Park Cemetery in Paducah. Visitation will be on Thursday, May 30, 2024 from 5:00-8:00 PM at Milner & Orr Funeral Home in Paducah.
