Magdalene Dawne O’Connor, age 66, of Bardwell, passed away peacefully at home on January 6, 2024.
Magdalene, known as Dawne by those around her, was born in Chicago, Illinois on February 14, 1957, to Bud and Edra Carmen. She was a strong and independent woman who put all others before herself and would give her last dollar and the shirt off her back to someone in need. Dawne wore many hats in her short time earth-side. She was a homemaker, helped run the family farm, and operated a daycare before retirement. Ask anyone about Dawne and they would tell you she loved her family and was happiest with her home full of family and loved ones. She also loved to tend to her garden and had the most beautiful roses, which were her favorite flower. Dawne also had a big place in her heart for animals, especially the ones in need.
Dawne is survived by three daughters, Tammy (Tommy) Varkalis of Chicago, Illinois, Britaney Florance of Blandville and Carlee (Zach) Fleming of Blandville; three sons, Benjamin (Caitlin) O’Connor of Cunningham, Elijah O’Connor of Bardwell and Michael Fleming of Milburn; two sisters, Patty Lazzo and Betty Buchanan; one brother, Gary; 22 grandchildren and two great-grandsons; a niece, Lanora “JoJo” Wendell; her partner of 23 years, Charles Brent Fleming; and finally, her beloved animals, Chloe, Max, Grey and Night.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Edra April Green; three grandchildren, Naomi, Megan, and Mason; husband, Ronnie Hewlett; four brothers, and her parents.
Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 pm on Saturday, January 13, 2024, at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Bardwell with Rev. Tim Harvey officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Cemetery in Bardwell.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Friday, January 12, 2024, at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Bardwell.
