Betty Mood “Betty Jo” Dew, 76

Betty Mood “Betty Jo” Dew, age 76, of Paducah, KY passed into the arms of Jesus Sunday, January 7, 2024 at her home surrounded by her family.

Betty Jo was born on August 18, 1947, to Lowell Byron Mood and Mary Josephine Jackson in Scottsburg, IN. She married her husband, Robert Owen Dew in 1968. Betty Jo attended Yazoo City High School where she was a star girls basketball player and graduated in 1966. She earned a voice scholarship to Holmes Community College. She then attended Fondren’s Beauty School where she earned high honors for her excellent hair styles. She served as a Tax Collector in Bolivar County, MS and served as an administrative assistant to the Vicksburg Evening Post, Warren County Courthouse and Moss Construction Company in Vicksburg, MS. Even though she served so many in her work capacities, Betty Jo considered her greatest service and accomplishment in life to have raised Robert and her three sons.

She and her husband moved to Paducah in 1998. Growing up, Betty Jo attended and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Yazoo City and later became a member of Bethel Christian Church in Kevil, KY. She always sang in her church choirs. Her favorite pastimes throughout her life included coaching her sons in little league baseball, golfing, playing bridge, and going to Dauphine Island. She also enjoyed visiting with her family, friends, and especially her grandchildren.

Betty Jo was preceded in death by her parents Lowell Byron Mood and Mary Josephine Jackson Mood, Eden Chaney and Carley Grace Dew (granddaughters), James I. Mood “Jim” (brother), and Gary Dean Mood (brother).

Betty Dew is survived by her loving husband of 55 years Robert Owen Dew of Paducah, KY, sister, Rita Jean Mood Blackburn of Bedford, IN, brother Terry Mood of Oxford, MS, sons Clifton Byron “Cliff” Dew (Joelle) of Mayfield KY, Robert Lipscomb “Bob” Dew (Christy) of Layfette, LA, Benjamin Jackson “Ben” Dew (Devona) of Madison, MS. grandsons Dawson Luke Dew, Brandon Jackson Dew, Chandler Owen Dew, and Cassyn Blakely Dew, granddaughters Darby Lea Dew and Kaytlin Faith Dew and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 12:00 PM Wednesday, January 10, 2024 at Bethel Christian Church in Kevil, KY with Rev. Nate Hillebrand officiating.  Burial will follow at Bethel Christian Church Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 10:00 AM-12:00 PM on Wednesday, January 10, 2024 at Bethel Christian Church.  Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah is in charge of arrangements.
