IDOT has nighttime work zone lane restrictions for deck work on the I-24 Ohio River Bridge.  The contractor is now working on the westbound lanes that carry traffic from Kentucky into Illinois.  This work zone is active from 7 p.m., to 7 a.m., Sunday through Thursday. Target completion date is Sept 28.

I-24 Eastbound at 72mm in Christian County (NEW)
I- 24 Eastbound will be reduced to one lane at the KY 117 Newstead-Gracey Exit 73 overpass starting Sept. 11, to allow repairs to the overpass approach end expansion joint.  Duration is approximately 3 weeks.

U.S. 60 Extended Paving in Livingston County (NEW)
Be alert for two extended base repair and paving projects totaling 17.65 miles along U.S. 60 in Livingston County.  U.S. 60/Smithland-Ledbetter Road base repairs followed by paving from Anita Lane at 3.82mm in Ledbetter extending eastward to 7.830mm near KY 937/Cutoff Road.  U.S. 60/Smithland-Salem Road milling and asphalt paving from the KY 137/River Road intersection at 15.318mm extending eastward through Burna and Salem to the Livingston-Crittenden County Line at 29.218mm. The target completion date is October 6, 2023.

Purchase Parkway All Ramps Closed at KY 339 Wingo Exit 14 (UPDATE)
All ramps at the KY 339 Wingo Exit 14 interchange are closed until about October 10.  Message boards provide detour info via Exit 2 at Fulton and Exit 21 at Mayfield.  Additionally, work zone lane restrictions are up from about the 15 to 17.5mm with an 11 ft. maximum load width.  There is a 55 mph work zone speed limit with a 45 mph speed limit at some locations and an enhanced police presence where construction crews are present.  The target completion date for all work on the project to extend I-69 southward along the parkway is Dec 15, 2024.

U.S. 45-Business/Kentucky Ave in Paducah (NEW)
Watch for traffic signal changes along U.S. 45-Business/Kentucky Ave in Paducah. Low overnight traffic numbers allowed additional signals to be placed in RED FLASHING mode at night.  Intersections placed in overnight RED FLASHING mode include South 6th Street, South 7th Street, South 9th Street, Walter Jetton Boulevard (10th St), South 21st Street, and South 25th Street. These intersections become ALL-WAY STOPS between 11 p.m., and 4 a.m., each day.  Traffic signals at Kentucky Avenue intersections with 21st Street, 16th Street, and 13th Street have been in night RED FLASHING mode with ALL-WAY STOPS since October 2022.

U.S. 45 Traffic Signal Work in Mayfield (UPDATE)
The intersection of U.S. 45/7th Street and KY 80/Broadway is closed for approximately 2 weeks.  Open excavations to place conduit to provide electrical connections for the traffic signal controller require closure of the intersection.  Motorists should self-detour via side streets.  Trucks should seek an approved state route based on load weight. Signage will continue to control traffic flow in downtown Mayfield with ALL-WAY STOPS until the new traffic signals are placed into service.

Mowing Crews on the Move
Motorists should be alert for mowing crews working along highways across the region. Mowing crews completed their last round of mowing in Mid-July, at the end of about a two month drought. Heavy rainfall has since caused vegetation along area roadways to explode.  Crews started the final round of mowing earlier than normal to reduce the resulting sight-distance issues.  Mowing zones will be marked by appropriate signage.  NOTE:  Political signs and other forms of advertising are not allowed along state right-of-way and should be removed. Signs illegally placed on highway right-of-way will be removed by state or contract personnel.

KY 2603/Vanzora Rd in Marshall County
KY 2603/Vanzora Road is restricted to one lane with alternating flow controlled by an automated signal at mile point 3.31 to allow deck restoration and maintenance work on the overpass that crosses Interstate 69.  This project should have no impact on Interstate 69 traffic  The target completion date is Sept 26, 2023.

KY 2505/Lakeview Church Rd in Marshall County
KY 2595/Lakeview Church Road will be restricted to one lane with alternating flow controlled by an automated signal at mile point 0.88 to allow deck restoration and maintenance work on the overpass that crosses Interstate 69.  This is along KY 2595/Lakeview Church Road immediately west of Maddox Road. The target completion date is Sept 26, 2023.

KY 402 Extended Closure in Hardin/Marshall County
Closure of KY 402/Aurora Highway in the Hardin Community of Marshall County at the 8.71mm is to allow construction of a new Martins Creek Bridge about halfway between the KY 905/Commerce Street and KY 1824/Murray Highway.  Passenger vehicles may self-detour via KY 905 and KY 1824/Murray Highway. Trucks should seek an appropriate state route.  The target completion date is Nov 24, 2023.

KY 1943 Extended Closure in Lyon County
An extended closure of KY 1943 in northern Lyon County at the 2mm is for construction of a new bridge over Crab Creek. This closure is about 1/2 mile west of KY 373 and 2 miles east of KY 295—no marked detour.  Target completion date is Nov 17, 2023.

Highway Closures Due to Infrastructure Damage
KYTC personnel continue efforts to reopen two highways damaged by record flash flooding on July 19 and some additional rounds of flooding.  Remaining closures include KY 945 at the 1.14mm in Graves County where extensive erosion repairs are required at the Gilbert Creek Bridge and KY 575 in Hickman County is CLOSED near the 2mm between KY 1708 and KY 123 awaiting the arrival of a new steel culvert.

KY 1286/N. Friendship Road Closure in McCracken County
A section of KY 1286/North Friendship Road in the Lone Oak area is closed between U.S. 45 and U.S. 62 until around Thanksgiving.  Local access is maintained for businesses and homes.  Due to excavations, no through-traffic is allowed.  Motorists may use the Connector Road between U.S. 45 and U.S. 62 at I-24 Exit 7 as a self-detour.  Traffic signal phasing along detour routes has been adjusted to accommodate the extra traffic load.

Dorena-Hickman Ferry Closed
The Dorena-Hickman Ferry is closed due to low water on the Mississippi River.  Water levels on the Mississippi River have dropped below the bottom of the landing ramp in Hickman Harbor.  The Cairo gauge is into record low territory.  The Ferry is expected to remain closed until substantial rainfall upstream improves water levels. Motorists may check on the ferry’s operating status by calling (731) 693-0210 or by going to https://www.facebook.com/DorenaHickmanFerry/.

U.S. 60 Cumberland River Bridge in Livingston County
A sub-contractor plans to start taking the deck off the old bridge in coming weeks.  Some equipment has been delivered to the worksite.  Demolition of the main truss on the old bridge is expected around the last couple of weeks in October.  Watch here for updates.

KY 129/East State Line Road in the City of Fulton
KY 129/East State Line Road remains closed at mile point 0.65 in Fulton due to structural issues with a bridge over a tributary to Harris Fork Creek. This closure is along KY 129/East State Line Road immediately east of the Cleveland Avenue intersection.  KYTC District 1 engineers developed a repair plan and reopened the bridge for a few days with a 3-ton load limit.  However, numerous trucks continued to cross the bridge, so it had to be closed again.  Updates as they become available.

KY 129 in Southern Graves County
Be alert for a work zone along KY 129 from the KY 94 intersection at mile point 8.735, extending northward through the KY 2422 intersection to KY 339 at mile point 15.4, a distance of 6.67 miles.  Due to narrow pavement, this work zone has an 8 ft. load width restriction.  Motorists should be alert for one-lane traffic with alternating flow controlled by flaggers.  The project is about 25 percent complete.  Nov 15 is the target completion date.

U.S. 641 in Southern Calloway County
Construction of the New U.S. 641 from the Clarks River Bridge at the south edge of Murray to the KY-TN State Line at Hazel continues.  Construction on this 6-mile new terrain section of 4-lane will have minimal impact on existing U.S. 641. The main impact is on side roads that run through the construction corridor. Motorists are reminded to avoid driving around or moving construction barricades.  Target completion date is early fall of 2023.
