
Kenneth Elwood Howell “Grand dad”, age 84, of Benton, KY, went to be with our Lord and Savior on May 29, 2023.
Kenneth was born to Virgil and Robbie Edwards Howell on July 22, 1938, in Marshall County, KY, the oldest of seven children. He attended school in Marshall County and after a brief time working in Michigan, he returned to Marshall County and joined the United States Army. While in the Army, Kenneth was stationed at a missile site outside Renton Washington, where he met the love of his life who would become Mrs. Kenneth Howell.
On August 13, 1960, in Renton Washington, Kenneth married Sandra Lee Lillethun. After his honorable discharge from the Army, Kenneth and Sandra returned home to Marshall County to raise their family. The couple bought a farm on Mayfield Highway where they continued to live. Kenneth worked and retired from SKW Alloys in Calvert City. He also served one term as First District Commissioner. He retired from the Commonwealth of Kentucky Department of Agriculture. Kenneth was an ordained Deacon at Vanzora Baptist Church and was also a certified member of Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry.
Kenneth loved his family and truly enjoyed spending time with his wife, kids, grandkids and great-grandkids. He also enjoyed farming, being outdoors, helping people and visiting and talking to people.
Kenneth is survived by his wife of 63 years, Sandra; his daughters, Jacqueline (Ron) Carroll of Nicholasville, KY, Cheryl Ealey of Benton, KY, Tracy L. (Kurt) Johnson of Benton, KY, Laurie Howell of Benton, KY; and son, Jon M. (Stacey) Howell of Calvert City, KY; grandchildren, Whitney (Evan) Ely of Mt. Sterling, KY, RJ (Paige) Carroll of Nashville, TN, Jack Carroll of Birmingham, AL; Zach (Abbey) Lathram of Bowling Green, KY, Eli (Chelsey) Lathram of Murray, KY, Ally (Aaron) Russell of Gilbertsville, KY, Kirsten (Keaton) Walker of Murray, KY, Garrett (Karly) Howell of Richardson, TX and Savannah Howell of Calvert City, KY; great-grandchildren, Miles Ely, Caroline Ely, Eastin Carroll, Warren Lathram, Lukas Lathram, Maxine Lathram, Leo Russell, CJ Russell, Alayah Walker, Wyatt Walker, Jesslyn Walker and baby girl on the way MaKenna Jane; brothers, Don (Missy) Howell and Pete (Mony) Howell; sisters, Joan (George) Culp, Cindy (Steve) King and Rita (Mike) Holland.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil (Boogie) and Robbie Howell, a brother Ron Howell, son-in-law Steve Ealey, son-in-law Scott Lathrum, and his mother and father-in-law Clifford and Dorothy Lillethun.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, June 1, 2023 at the Vanzora Baptist Church Cemetery.
