2023 Session Review
Election reform continued during the 2023 General Assembly Session that just wrapped up. Among other things, House Bill 302 grants my request to tighten the law that lets county clerks consolidate the number of voting locations available on election day. The bill also bans electioneering within 100 feet of a voting location during early voting days, a practice already in place for election day.
Safe at Home Act
Another major victory this session was the passage of Senate Bill 79, the Safe at Home Act. The law will bolster the current Address Confidentiality Program in place at the Secretary of State’s Office, by allowing victims of domestic violence to participate in the program without a protective order, and to mask their addresses on publicly available government records, beyond just the voter rolls.
Cleaning Up the Voter Rolls
In 2019, I promised that under my administration, we would take off voters who have moved away, passed away, or been put away. More than 300,000 of such voters have been removed since I took office, including more than 160,000 deceased voters. In February alone, we removed 127,000 inactive voters causing 82 counties out of 120 to see a decrease in registered voters.
