KYTC reminds holiday motorists of work zones

Whenever and wherever possible Kentucky Transportation Cabinet contractors have removed work zones to allow normal traffic flow for the holiday driving period.

There are, however, two exceptions in Western Kentucky.

A work zone with a 12 foot load width restriction remains in place along the Purchase Parkway between Calvert City and Mayfield.

It includes a 55 mile per hour work zone speed limit.

While no lane restrictions are planned on the Eggner’s Ferry Bridge, the construction area for the new bridge will remain active during part of the holiday.

While the work zone will be inactive on the holidays, work will continue right up to the start of the holiday driving period and between Christmas and New Year’s Eve.

A crew will be continuing some limited work during the holiday period to place reinforcing steel to prepare for pouring more of the concrete deck on the new bridge after the first of the year.

Motorists should be alert as this work zone will return to a high level of activity on January 4th.
