(FRANKFORT, Ky.) – Kentucky State Treasurer Mark H. Metcalf kicked off the state’s first-ever Unclaimed Property Week today, urging Kentuckians to spend a few minutes searching for money that may be waiting for them.
The Treasury created the observance in partnership with the General Assembly. It will be held each year during the fourth week of September.
“Your money belongs to you, and my job as State Treasurer is to get it back to you,” Metcalf said. “We’re taking Unclaimed Property Week on the road to help Kentuckians find money that belongs to them. I encourage everyone to search their name and see what they find.”
Metcalf and Treasury staff will host Unclaimed Property Roadshows in three counties:
- Madison County on Sept. 21
- Warren County on Sept. 22
- Boyd County on Sept. 25
Treasury staff will be at each stop to help residents search for their property and start the claims process.
Kentuckians can search for unclaimed property for free at treasury.ky.gov, where they can also find roadshow details and more information about the week. Those with questions or who need help with a claim can call the Treasury’s Unclaimed Property Division at 1-800-465-4722.
