Mary Dees Sawchuck, age 75, of Alexandria, Virginia, died on June 25, 2026 at Virginia Hospital Center in Arlington, Virginia.
Mary was born at Riverside Hospital in Paducah, KY on July 18, 1950, the firstborn of twins. She grew up in and was educated in Calvert City, KY, surrounded by family and many friends and relatives.
Mary became a Registered Nurse in 1972 after graduating from Murray State University in Murray, Kentucky. Her 53-year medical career was a great source of pride for her.
Mary’s special interests included cross stitching, reading, and collecting antique pottery and glassware. Mary also had a deep and long-lasting love for Boston Terriers.
Mary is survived by her husband of 35 years, William Joseph Sawchuck of Alexandria, VA; sister-in-law Cindy Sawchuck and her partner Becky Woo of San Francisco, CA; Mary’s sister Jan Dees Wade of Lexington, KY; her brother Gary Lynn Dees of Lexington, KY; and her twin sister Marty Dees Bernal of Gilbertsville, KY. She is survived by her two nieces Ashley Dees Rhodes (husband David) of Lexington, KY, and Jennifer Leigh Wade of Lexington, KY. She is also survived by great-nephew Kendrick Rhodes and twin great-nieces Morgan and Willow Rhodes of Lexington, KY.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents Fred Thomas Dees, Jr. and Lillian Oakley Dees. She was also preceded in death by her grandparents Fred Thomas Dees, Sr. and Martha Covington Dees; and Odie Craygon Oakley and Mary Birdsong Oakley.
There will be no funeral service. A private family ceremony will take place at a later date.
