(BENTON, Ky.) – The Marshall County Sheriff’s Office closed out June with a busy arrest log, tallying 48 arrests over the past month, including charges ranging from traffic violations to felony sex crimes.
On June 1, Matthew Holt, 44, of Benton, was arrested on a Marshall Circuit Court indictment warrant charging him with receiving stolen property valued between $1,000 and $10,000. The following day, Cecilia Hopkins, 36, of Benton, was arrested and charged with fourth-degree assault, and Michael Myers, 33, of Benton, was arrested after detectives determined he had used artificial intelligence to create pornographic videos depicting himself and a known minor. Myers was charged with 14 counts of promoting a minor in a sex performance.
On June 3, Brandon Adrian, 29, of Calvert City, was charged with fourth-degree assault and public alcohol intoxication, while Aydan Muso, 19, of Paducah, was arrested for violating a KY EPO/DVO. Kristen Hega, 44, of Benton, was arrested June 4 on a Calloway District Court warrant charging second-degree assault, second-degree burglary and theft by unlawful taking.
Deputies made three arrests June 5. Michael Delapp, 36, of Hickory, was found slumped over the wheel of a running vehicle in Draffenville and was charged with first-degree possession of methamphetamine (third or greater offense), possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Paul Kissiar, 40, of Benton, and Shirley Click, 24, of Gilbertsville, were each arrested for public alcohol intoxication, with Click’s arrest stemming from a disturbance call on Tatumsville Highway.
One of the month’s more serious incidents occurred June 8, when deputies went to a residence on Barbara Lane to serve a warrant on Larry Bannister, 50, of Hardin. Bannister allegedly met deputies at the door armed with a handgun, threatening to shoot it out with officers. After more than two hours of negotiation, he surrendered the weapon. Bannister was served a probation violation warrant and additionally charged with possession of a handgun by a convicted felon and two counts of first-degree wanton endangerment.
June 9 brought three arrests: John Camara, 30, of Calvert City, on a fourth-degree assault warrant; David Carmona, 39, of Benton, for violating conditions of release; and Joshua Burrow, 45, of Benton, on six failure-to-appear bench warrants out of Crittenden County and an additional one from Union County.
Elisabeth Goodchild, 25, of Gilbertsville, was arrested June 10 for violating a KY EPO. Cody Barbeau, 32, of Benton, was arrested June 11 for fourth-degree assault.
On June 13, Jeremy Ptacnik, 28, of Benton, was arrested and charged with five counts of first-degree wanton endangerment after allegedly firing a gun in a direction that endangered bystanders and pedestrians. He was released on a $5,000 surety bond.
A road rage complaint led to one of June’s most serious cases on June 14, when Warren Reynolds, 62, of Fulton, allegedly pointed a firearm at a vehicle carrying five people, including several children. Reynolds initially refused to exit his vehicle during the traffic stop and was physically removed before admitting to having the loaded firearm, which had a round chambered. He was charged with six counts of first-degree wanton endangerment and resisting arrest, and was released on a $2,500 surety bond.
On June 15, Tony Peyton, 60, of Calvert City, was stopped in Draffenville and charged with first-degree possession of methamphetamine (second offense), two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia, third-degree possession of a controlled substance and improper storage of a prescription-controlled substance. John P. Brown, 46, of Benton, was arrested June 16 for violating a KY EPO.
Three arrests occurred June 17. Gage Jobe, 34, of Benton, was served a warrant charging fourth-degree assault, disorderly conduct, second-degree robbery and third-degree terroristic threatening. Shannon Knight, 41, of Walnut Ridge, Arkansas, was arrested after deputies responded to a report of an unsupervised 3-year-old near a roadway on Lakeview Church Road; Knight, the child’s guardian, was found passed out from intoxication and charged with second-degree wanton endangerment, and the child was placed in the custody of social services. Brett Nance, 42, of Hardin, was arrested on two failure-to-appear bench warrants.
Two arrests were made June 18. Eli Thacker, 25, of Wingo, was stopped on I-69 and charged with reckless driving, first-offense DUI, possession of an open container and improper lane usage. Jamie Brien, 60, of Benton, was arrested at a residence on Sharpe Elva Road on an indictment warrant charging first-degree sexual abuse of a victim under 12 and persistent felony offender status. That same day, Donald Thorn, 51, of Gilbertsville, was served an indictment warrant charging two counts of first-degree wanton endangerment for discharge of a firearm.
Steven Shaw, 41, of Benton, was stopped June 20 on US 641 and charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of controlled substances, drug paraphernalia possession, marijuana possession and a windshield violation.
Two more drug-related arrests followed June 21. Bobby Thompson, 63, of Ledbetter, was found walking along a roadway before 2 a.m. and charged with first-degree methamphetamine possession (third or greater offense), drug paraphernalia possession and public intoxication. Breanna Beckham, 30, of Columbus, Mississippi, was arrested as a passenger in a vehicle stopped on US 68E and charged with first-degree methamphetamine possession and drug paraphernalia possession; the driver was cited separately on traffic offenses.
Dustin Frost, 37, of Gilbertsville, was arrested June 22 on a contempt of court bench warrant, and Desalegn Mengesha, 43, of Dallas, was stopped on I-69 and found to have an active Simpson County failure-to-appear warrant, along with a speeding citation.
On June 23, Justin Hardy, 42, of Benton, and Matthew Hauger, 38, of Wickliffe, were each arrested on separate failure-to-appear bench warrants, while Tana Montgomery, 55, of O’Fallon, Missouri, was arrested on an indictment warrant charging her with knowingly exploiting an adult person for more than $300.
Terry Martin, 56, of Hardin, was arrested June 24 for violating a KY EPO.
June 25 saw three arrests. Timothy Darst, 25, of Bowling Green, was served two separate indictment warrants out of Warren Circuit Court, facing charges of marijuana trafficking, cocaine possession, unspecified controlled substance possession, drug paraphernalia possession, persistent felony offender status, and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon with a second persistent felony offender charge. Christopher Caruthers, 49, of Hardin, was served a warrant for theft of mislaid property, and Jennifer Lauby, 40, of Metropolis, Illinois, was arrested as a fugitive from justice on an active Illinois warrant.
Lane Fiser, 23, of Calvert City, was arrested June 26 for first-offense DUI and a tail lamp violation, and Regina Haney, 39, of Afton, Tennessee, was arrested during a probation and parole check on Breezeel School Road, facing multiple methamphetamine possession charges.
Three arrests closed out the month. Roman Nichols, 33, of Benton, was arrested June 28 on a shoplifting warrant. Jesus Gonzalez, 29, of Antioch, Tennessee, was stopped on I-24 and charged with driving without a license, no insurance and other traffic offenses. Nicole Messer, 41, of Gilbertsville, was charged with second-degree animal cruelty after deputies said video evidence showed her throwing a dog into a balcony support beam.
On June 29, Richard Brock, 45, of Benton, was arrested on two probation violation bench warrants, Michael Horn, 49, of Calvert City, was charged with fourth-degree assault and second-degree unlawful imprisonment, and Derek David, 42, of Benton, was charged with reckless driving, speeding 26 mph or more over the limit, and failure to report a traffic accident after nearly striking a deputy’s vehicle head-on and then leaving the scene of a separate collision. Brittany Seys, 36, of Benton, closed out the month on June 30 with a fourth-degree assault charge.
July opened with two arrests. On July 1, Jason Duff, 45, of Gilbertsville, was arrested on a Carlisle District Court contempt of court warrant. Also that day, deputies responded to a report of a man walking in and out of traffic in the median near Draffenville. They located Ronnie Ford, 47, of Paducah, walking in the roadway in front of passing vehicles and appearing to be under the influence; Ford told deputies he had used methamphetamine and fentanyl. He was taken to the hospital as a precaution and, once cleared, transported to the Marshall County Jail and charged with public intoxication and disorderly conduct.
All individuals listed are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
