(SILVIS, Ill.) — Murray State women’s golf made history Tuesday, capturing the program’s first-ever Missouri Valley Conference Team Championship at TPC Deere Run — and they did it the hard way.
Staring down a 12-stroke deficit heading into the final round, the Racers mounted one of the most dramatic comebacks in program history, ultimately edging Bradley by a single stroke to claim the conference crown. Murray State’s closing-round 301 was a full 10 shots better than any other team on the course for the day, powering the Racers to a 54-hole total of 923 (304-318-301).
Elin Tynan and Ella Scherer led the charge individually, each finishing the week tied for fifth place at 15-over par. Patti Patterson, Tina Von Arx and Katherine Weir added to the effort, all crossing the finish line inside the top 20 of the overall field.
The championship is Murray State’s first in women’s golf since 2019 and the 13th conference title in the program’s 33-year history. It also represents a milestone for fourth-year head coach Phillip Nelson, who captured his first conference championship at the helm of the Racers.
With the MVC title now secured, Murray State will set its sights on the NCAA Regional stage. Regionals are scheduled for May 11–13 across six host sites, with 12 teams competing at each location.
