(KUTTAWA, Ky.) — The body of a Nashville man wanted in connection with a Tennessee homicide has been found on the bank of the Cumberland River in Lyon County, Kentucky State Police announced Sunday.
Kentucky State Police Post 1 detectives identified the deceased as Darrion M. Young, 37, of Nashville, after a caller reported discovering a body near the end of McKinney Road in Kuttawa just after 2 p.m. CDT on March 30. Troopers and detectives responded to the scene, where no foul play is suspected. An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday, April 1.
The discovery brings a grim close to a missing persons investigation that began more than two weeks earlier and quickly took on a darker dimension.
On the night of March 13, a KSP Post 1 lieutenant spotted an abandoned 2018 red Dodge Charger on the shoulder of the I-24 Cumberland River bridge. With no one found in or around the vehicle, troopers contacted Metro Nashville Police Department and asked officers to check on the registered owner at a Nashville address. What MNPD found there set off a multistate investigation — a deceased woman inside the home.
Working together, KSP Post 1 and the MNPD Homicide Unit identified Young as a murder suspect and concluded he had likely been driving the vehicle abandoned on the bridge.
An initial search of the Cumberland River was launched after the car was found, with additional searches planned for this week — before the body was discovered Sunday afternoon.
The investigation is being led by Detective William Propes of KSP Post 1.
